چکیده

Rodenticide or insecticide formulations in the form of syrups, jelly or pastes. Often applied to foods such as cookies, cakes, peanut butter or grain. Commercial preparations, such as ant traps, ant baits and rat poisons generally contain 0.5 1.0% thallium. In 1963, the federal government adopted legislation prohibiting the sale of thallium containing pesticides to the general public. In commercial applications, thallium has been largely replaced by other rodenticides such that, at the present time, thallium is infrequently used in the USA but is still commonly used in some countries.

Photoinduced free radicals from chlorpromazine and related phenothiazines: relationship to phenothiazine-induced photosensitization.

Chlorpromazine and several other related phenothiazines are known to cause both phototoxic and photoallergic reactions in the skin and eyes of patients receiving these drugs. While the detailed mechanisms of photosensitization are not known, it is obvious that the first step must be the absorption of light by the drug, its metabolites, or photoproducts, or possibly an induced endogenous chemica...

The frequency of photosensitization in a dairy cattle herd infected by Leptospires

Leptospirosis is a bacterial zoonotic disease, which can induce hepatic lesions. Photosensitization (PS)maybe is the result of accumulation of photodynamic agents in unpigmented area of the skin exposed tosunlight which occurred due to hepatic lesions. An outbreak of leptospirosis was occurred in a dairy cattleherd complex with 760 dairy milking cows in March (1990). Totally, 412 cows (54.21%) ...

Inactivation of Friend erythroleukemia virus and Friend virus-transformed cells by merocyanine 540-mediated photosensitization.

The Friend virus complex was used as a model to study the effects of merocyanine 540 (MC 540)-mediated photosensitization on enveloped viruses. Simultaneous exposure to the lipophilic dye MC 540 and white light inactivated cell-free virus, cell-associated virus, and virus-transformed cells. When used under experimental conditions that are known to preserve most mature blood cells, at least some...

Melanin Photosensitization and the Effect of Visible Light on Epithelial Cells

Protecting human skin from sun exposure is a complex issue that involves unclear aspects of the interaction between light and tissue. A persistent misconception is that visible light is safe for the skin, although several lines of evidence suggest otherwise. Here, we show that visible light can damage melanocytes through melanin photosensitization and singlet oxygen (1O2) generation, thus decre...

Evaluation of phototoxic properties of antimicrobials used in topical preparations by a photohaemolysis test.

Antimicrobials are widely used in topical formulations as preservatives or as therapeutically active agents. Photosensitization by such compounds has not yet been studied systematically. To identify possible phototoxic properties, antimicrobials (benzyl alcohol, bronopol, chloracetamide, clioquinol, diazolidinyl urea, ethylenediamine dihydrochloride, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, imidazolidinyl...
